Energetic Materials Technician

Weekly hours: 37 but some overtime work may need to be covered on an ‘as required’ basis

• Working as part of the Energetics Materials Research & Development team, helping to evaluate new materials and conducting trials to develop new explosive compositions and filling techniques, and also provide materials quality assurance to support production.
• Working within the Munitions Division, responsible for ensuring all safety requirements are met when carrying the work on the group. This role is suited for someone looking to develop themselves in the engineering/scientific disciplines.
• Safe handling of energetic materials during preparation, mixing and filling of test munitions.
• To ensure the work is carried out according to the business processes, to the highest standards of Health and Safety.
• To ensure that the highest levels of housekeeping are maintained before, during and after energetics processing activities.
• To work and communicate as part of a team.
• Assist the facility management in the supervision of visitors and contractors around the processing facilities.
• Assisting the team in maintaining accurate control of explosives stocks throughout the process.


• An understanding of scientific principles (chemistry / materials engineering) or engineering (chemical / process).
• A Level (or equivalent) in chemistry/physics and maths.
• An ability to work efficiently with Microsoft Office applications as required.
• An ability to operate complex equipment in line with instruction.
• Due to the nature of the team's work the candidate must be enthusiastic, possessing excellent communication skills and be able to work under their own initiative.
• Able to demonstrate that you are a team player, committed to continual improvement whilst also showing a willingness to learn quickly.
• Any successful candidate would also need to have strong motivational and interpersonal attributes.
• A keen eye for detail for all safety and quality aspects and a willingness to report concerns.
• The role would be suited to an applicant with some knowledge and experience of working in an industrial environment and handling hazardous materials.

Security clearance: The successful candidate will be required to apply for and receive a Disclosure Scotland certificate as a part of the Baseline Security clearance process (BPSS). The cost of the application (£25) is met by the successful candidate and not redeemable from the end client.


To coordinate the maintenance, repair and calibration of all Test and Measuring Equipment used to test flight and non-flight products across the Stevenage site. To actively monitor the requirements and pro-actively seek ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency to ensure on cost on time, on quality to customer requirements.

Internal Relationships: Assembly Integration & Test, Logistics, Portsmouth, General Procurement.

External Relationships: Calibration houses, telecoms, ENS programme lines.

Key Responsibilities:

- To provide Logistical and technical support to the users of Test & measurement equipment
- To advise on suitability and availability of equipment for specific applications
- To liaise with calibration manufacturers of Test & Measuring equipment.
- To liaise with the in-house Electrical and Mechanical calibration facilities
- To provide and issue an internal calibration recall system each month and ensure compliance.
- Ensure regular inventory management of all assets utilising company ERP system.
- To ensure accuracy of all data related to the Asset Management database for all assets.
- Coordination of internal customer forecast and usage requirements


* ONC in Electrical / Electronic discipline, RF & Communications preferable
* 2-5 years’ experience working within a Logistical support role
* Working environment/industry: Aerospace, Communications, Calibration facility, RADAR, Antenna’s, EMC, ATE

* Desire to innovate, reduce costs and provide best match services to meet Company requirements
* Able to express requirements verbally and in writing
* Procedures and process experience,
* Excellent Health & Safety awareness (this role includes physical movement of equipment)
